Protection

Through its projects in the protection sector, JAAHD works on improving the lives of children, their families and communities affected by disasters and wars and contribute in protecting them from all forms of abuse, neglect, exploitation and violence during the emergency situation. This response is at best managed through a package of preventive and remedial interventions for the most vulnerable groups, particularly the displaced and host families. JAAHD has developed a plan and strategy for this sector in accordance with the strategic objectives of the Child Protection Cluster in Yemen which includes coordination, cooperation, capacity building, resource mobilization, monitoring and evaluation.

Protection Community Centers

The protection community centers target the most prioritized districts in Al Hudaydah Governorate in order to provide emergency protection support for vulnerable population of IDPs and host communities. JAHHD focused on establishing community centers to enable and strengthen the IDPs as well as the host communities by providing them a safe environment/forum to enhance their proactive engagement in decision making that affect their lives. Also, these centers support the most vulnerable cases by emergency cash assistance and individual case management follow-ups for the conflict affected survivors. For an effective protection response, JAAHD hired eligible team such as social workers and psychologists in the community center to conduct case management, update the services and referrals map, follow up and manage safe referral. For the child protection response, they track the families’ reunion, provide foster families for unaccompanied children and assist the victim children, survivors, and vulnerable GBV children. Other targeted groups who receive the services of the community centers are those people with special needs and the elderly. Moreover, the community centers provide legal assistance for people who don’t have legal documents, including support for legal issues. Livelihood activities are also managed in this project to contribute in mitigating poverty and increasing sustainable livelihood opportunities for the vulnerable IDPs and host communities through the establishment of micro businesses with low cost in order to meet the urgent needs of vulnerabilities.
